The UK Disposable Vape Ban: What It Actually Means for You

Rechargeable pre-filled pod kit, the replacement for disposable vapes

If you've been buying disposable vapes for a while, you've probably noticed they've vanished from shelves. The UK banned the sale and supply of single-use disposable vapes from 1 June 2025, and it's caught a lot of regular vapers off guard — especially anyone who just wants to switch from smoking without messing about with bottles and coils.

Here's what actually changed, and what to buy instead without losing any of the convenience.

Why the ban happened

Two main reasons drove it: environmental waste (millions of disposables were being binned every week, batteries and all) and concern over how easily disposables were ending up in the hands of under-18s thanks to bright colours and pocket-money pricing. The ban applies to any vape that isn't designed to be recharged or refilled — so it's the single-use format that's gone, not vaping itself.

What you can still buy

The good news is the devices that replaced disposables are just as easy to use — you've just gone from throwing the whole thing away to swapping a pod. Two main options:

Pre-filled pod kits

These look and feel almost identical to the disposables you're used to — same pocket size, same draw-activated puff. The only difference is the battery's rechargeable via USB-C, and once a pod runs dry you click in a fresh one instead of binning the whole device. Browse pre-filled pod kits.

Refillable pod kits

A step up if you want to save money long-term — same rechargeable battery, but you fill the pod yourself with any 10ml nic salt rather than buying pre-filled pods. Slightly more setup, noticeably cheaper per ml. Browse refillable pod kits.

Which one's right for you

If you liked the total no-thought simplicity of a disposable, a pre-filled pod kit is the closest match — you're basically just adding a charging cable to your routine. If you're vaping regularly and want to bring the cost down, a refillable kit pays for itself within a few weeks and lets you pick from every nic salt flavour we stock rather than whatever a disposable brand happened to make. Our guide to choosing your first pod kit covers what actually matters — battery size, pod style and coil resistance — if you want a proper steer.

Either way, you're not losing the format you liked — just swapping single-use for something that does the same job without ending up in landfill after a day. If you're completely new to any of this, our Beginner's Guide to Vaping is the place to start.
